Located about 11km southeast of Chiba City’s center, Izumi Nature Park is a 43ha park where you can see fall leaves turning in places like Momiji Valley, Koyo Park, and from Izumi Bridge.

Hondo Temple (Matsudo City) 本土寺
This temple is known in Japanese as Hondo-ji, but is also nicknamed Ajisai-ji, the temple of hydrangeas. While beautiful hydrangeas bloom in early summer, beautifully-colored trees decorate the temple grounds in fall.

Kampuku Temple (Katori City) 観福寺
Resting in the graveyard of Kampuku-ji is the famous Ino Tadataka, who created the first map of Japan. Learn about the Chiba-native’s role in history as you admire the fall leaves.

Block 7

Otaki Prefectural Forest, Tsutsumori Momiji Valley, and Awamata Waterfall (Otaki Town)
The best place to enjoy the fall season is in Otaki Town. At the Prefectural Forest (Kenmin-no-Mori), stay overnight at the campgrounds and explore the bamboo craft center. At Tsutsumori Momiji Valley, see a panorama of Japanese maples, beech, and lacquer trees. At Awamata-no-taki, there is a waterfall 100m long with a 30m vertical drop surrounded by beautiful fall scenery, and the annual Yoro Valley Momiji Festival will be held on November 23.

Block 8

Momiji Road (Futtsu City) もみじロード
One thousand trees of all colors line a 10km course along the Shikoma River, lending this street the name “Momiji (fall leaves) Road.”
When to go: late November—early December
Place: Momiji Road, Shikoma to Yamanaka, Futtsu City
Access: From Kazusa-minato Station, take the Amaha Nitto Bus bound for “Tozurahara Dam” and get off at “Mutsuno”. The entrance to Momiji Road is about 5km away.
By car from the north, take the Tateyama Expressway and exit at Futtsu-chuo IC, then turn onto Route 465 to Route 182. From the south, exit the Tateyama Expressway at Kyonan-Hota IC and turn onto Route 34 to Route 182.

The University of Tokyo Chiba Forest (Kimitsu City)
The Chiba Forest was created in 1894 as the first forest used for university research in Japan. Normally the forest is closed off for research, but a part of Inokawa Valley will be specially opened to the public for the fall foliage season. Visitors can learn about the forest and the kinds of research conducted here.

Enjoy the clear fall air as you leisurely stroll about the Kangetsuan tea house and Japanese garden. On Sunday, November 23 there will be a fall leaves tea ceremony from 10:00 to 15:00.

From the end of November to the end of December, the side of Chiba Port Tower will be lit up with 3,500 lights in the shape of a Christmas tree over 100 meters tall and 30 meters wide.

Flowers in Christmas colors like poinsettas and winter flowers bloom throughout the museum, and check out the unique ornaments decorating the Christmas tree.

Starlight Fantasy 2015 at Asahi City Unakami Community Center (Asahi City) 旭市海上公民館
This year’s Starlight Fantasy featuring various light artwork will turn Asahi City into a fantastic wonderland. A special lottery event will be held on Sunday, December 20 at 16:30.

32,000 lights of all colors twinkle brightly at night in Onjuku. To get viewers in the Christmas spirit, until December 25 the illuminations will feature a Christmas tree, Santa Claus, and reindeer. After December 26, the illuminations will feature dolphins, fish, and Onjuku's famous spiny lobster, as well as Onjuku's mascot character Ebi-amigo and CHI-BA+KUN.

Mother Farm (Futtsu City) マザー牧場
Mother Farm’s illumination display is themed “Twinkling Farm: A Starry Farm Fantasy” and has increased to 400,000 lights, plus an illumination show that tells the tale of a curious shooting star that falls onto a farm. From now until Sunday, January 31, visitors can rent skates and go ice skating beneath an 8m tall momi fir tree.

Country Farm Tokyo German Village (Sodegaura City) 東京ドイツ村
This famous illumination display is one of the largest in the southern Boso area, with 2,500,000 lights in various artistic designs that change every year. This year’s theme is “Toy Box: Bright Smiles.” Visitors come from all over every year to see the Tunnel of Fireflies, Light and Sound Show, and the 3D illumination on the big lawn.

Matsudo Shrine (Matsudo City) 松戸神社
Prince Yamato Takeru, a legendary Japanese prince and 12th Emperor of Japan, made camp at one point during his travels here, where Matsudo Shrine stands today. Sogo Sanctuary (Narita City) 宗吾霊堂
Officially known as Tosho-ji (full name is Meishozantosho-ji 名鐘山東勝寺). Enshrined here is Sakura Sogoro, a farmer and head of Kozu Village in what is now Narita City, who appealed to the shogun in 1652 to lessen the peasants' burden of heavy taxes and bad crops. Katori Shrine (Katori City) 香取神宮
Enshrined at Katori Shrine is Futsunushi-no-Okami, the kami of lightning and swords and a general of Amaterasu. Katori Shrine is famous for being the ichinomiya, or highest-ranking shrine, of the former Shimosa Province, and also for being a jingu, a shrine connected to the Imperial House of Japan. Sogen Temple (Mobara City) 藻原寺
One of the oldest Nichiren Buddhist temples with sacred ground for the first chanting of the daimoku, a mantra based on the Lotus Sutra that is central to the branch of Buddhism founded by Chiba-native Nichiren. The temple is located near Mobara Park, and the kanji for the temple itself can also be read as “mobara.”

Kiyosumi Temple (Kamogawa City) 清澄寺
Here in 1253, Nichiren, a famous Buddhist monk and figure in Japanese history, first chanted the daimoku, a mantra central to the branch of Buddhism he founded based on the Lotus Sutra. Asahigamori is also one of the top 100 places to see the sunrise in Japan.

Tanjo-ji Temple (Kamogawa City) 誕生寺
This temple was founded on the birthplace of Nichiren, a famous Buddhist monk and figure in Japanese history who founded Nichiren Buddhism. The temple has been moved from its original location after being destroyed by earthquakes and tidal waves, but remains one of the most sacred places in Nichiren Buddhism.
