What is AJET?

AJET is the Association for Japan Exchange and Teaching, a national organization that provides support, opportunities, events, and community building to the JET Programme. Japan is grouped into several blocks; Chiba is a member of Block 4. Each prefecture has its own chapter of AJET, and ours is Chiba AJET.

National AJET/Block 4

The Association for Japan Exchange and Teaching (AJET) is a volunteer organisation of JET Programme participants. AJET serves the JET community by building support networks, organising useful information, and offering resources to enhance the lives of the Programme participants in Japan and abroad. It maintains a counselling service and an online magazine, and voices the opinions and concerns of JETs to CLAIR and the Japanese government ministries that manage the JET Programme. AJET has existed since the inception of the JET Programme; at the national level, it is headed by the AJET National Council, a body of twenty elected and appointed current JETs from across Japan. (from the AJET website)

Japan is split up into 11 blocks, and Chiba is in Block 4 with Yamanashi, Shizuoka, Tokyo, and Kanagawa. This block has a representative on the National Council who spreads information throughout the blocks, plans events, and builds community within the prefectures.

Chiba AJET

Chiba AJET organizes a number of yearly events like the post-Chiba Orientation dinner, Thanksgiving dinner, hanami, and camping. We've also done many one-off events like go-karting, sports day in the park, visiting local festivals, and more. There is also a Facebook group where members can ask questions, share information, and get ideas.

How do I join? How do I find out about events?

Though it has JET in the name, anyone can join Chiba AJET regardless of their affiliation with JET/Wisconsin. This means that private ALTs, foreign workers in Japan, and Japanese nationals are also welcome! There is no fee to join, but some events may charge money for renting space or ordering food.

Chiba AJET events and projects are mainly announced as an event on the Facebook group. There is also the Wordpress page.

How do I join as a volunteer?

Volunteers help suggest and organize events throughout the year. If you are interested in becoming a volunteer, please email chibaajet[@]gmail.com.
