Overview

Kyonan Town (鋸南町; -machi) is a town in southern Chiba Prefecture. Nestled in between Futtsu and Minami-bōsō (Block 8), Kyonan is full of natural scenery, vibrant culture, and wonderful people. It is perfect for taking a break from the city-life, so why not come have a look?

Kyonan lies south of Nokogiri-yama (鋸山), one of three famous mountains in Chiba, which gives the town its name (kyo is the onyomi for 鋸). There are only two train stations in Kyonan: Awa-Katsuyama Station (安房勝山駅) and Hota Station (保田駅). Both stations lie on the JR Uchibō Line, and are about an hour and a half trip south of Chiba City. Also, Highway 127 and the Futtsu-Tateyama toll road run through the town.

Kyonan's primary industry is fishing, and as a result there is an abundance of fresh seafood brought into the town's harbors every morning. With its scenic coastline, the town has flourished as a swimming destination for many years. The geography of Kyonan, however, is mostly made up of mountains and farmland.
